The Chicago Body Works is a chiropractic and massage spa on N. Ashland Ave. in Chicago, led by Dr. Christopher J. Halliday, D.C., a graduate of The National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, IL who has been in practice since 2001 and also holds two Bachelor's Degrees in Human Biology and Molecular Biology. The practice describes its office as more of a spa than a cold, sterile clinic, and it treats the full range of musculoskeletal conditions including acute and chronic back pain, neck pain, headaches, disc injuries, sports injuries, and general soreness. For over two decades the office has used a protocol it calls The Combo, a focused massage of typically 30 minutes over the region of clinical concern followed by chiropractic adjustments to those same regions. Treatment options include manual adjustments, the Cox Flexion Distraction Technique, the Activator Method instrument, spinal decompression therapy, physiotherapy modalities, and rehabilitative exercise, delivered alongside a team of licensed massage therapists trained in deep tissue, sports, myofascial, and pediatric work. The office accepts all insurance plans, verifies and explains benefits before treatment at no charge, and completes and submits claim forms for patients at no charge.

Services

Chiropractic adjustments

Chiropractic adjustments

Advanced chiropractic manipulation and subluxation correction, applying a targeted force in a specific direction to a joint that is misaligned or restricted, to correct vertebral alignment and increase range of motion.

Cox flexion distraction technique

Cox flexion distraction technique

A non-surgical spinal manipulation technique performed on a special table that gently separates the spinal joints, decompressing discs and reducing pressure around the spine.

Activator method adjustments

Activator method adjustments

A gentle, low-force approach using the hand-held Activator Adjusting Instrument to deliver a controlled, fast thrust that the body's muscles are less likely to resist.

Spinal decompression therapy

Spinal decompression therapy

A treatment area of expertise for Dr. Halliday, merged with traditional chiropractic care and state-of-the-art physiotherapy modalities.

Manual therapy

Manual therapy

Directed manual force to improve range of motion, relieve muscle tension, and reduce musculoskeletal pain. May include traction massage, deep tissue work, soft tissue mobilization, and joint mobilization.

Why choose us?

Chiropractic and massage together

The office uniquely offers chiropractic and massage in combination through a protocol it calls The Combo: a focused massage, typically 30 minutes, of the region of clinical concern, followed by chiropractic adjustments to those same regions. Dr. Halliday determines whether the approach is right for you.

A spa setting, not a cold clinic

The practice describes its office as more of a spa than a cold, sterile clinic. Office policy asks patients to refrain from cell phone use or to switch phones to vibrate so the space stays peaceful and relaxing.

Insurance work handled for you

The office accepts all insurance plans, and staff will verify and explain your benefits before treatment at no charge. Claim forms are filled out and submitted to your insurance provider for you, also at no charge.

Gentle, low-force technique options

The Activator Adjusting Instrument delivers a controlled, fast, low-force thrust designed to be comfortable, and the Cox Flexion Distraction Technique applies only slight pressure as a nearly painless alternative to back surgery.

An experienced doctor and licensed therapists

Dr. Halliday was a resident at the National University of Health Sciences Whole Health Center in Chicago, where he completed his internship, and has practiced since 2001. He works with a team of licensed massage therapists trained in myofascial release, Muscle Activation Technique, deep tissue, sports, and pediatric massage.

A thorough, consent-first first visit

Your first visit includes new patient forms, a pain diagram, directed questions about your condition, and a physical exam covering standard orthopedic, neurological, and postural testing, followed by a report of findings. Nothing is done without your consent or level of comfort.

FAQs

What is The Combo?
The Combo is the treatment protocol the office has used for over two decades. It involves a focused massage, typically 30 minutes, of the region or regions of particular clinical concern, followed by chiropractic adjustments to those regions. The aim is to address the muscular and myofascial components first, then the skeletal and nervous components. Dr. Halliday will determine if this approach is right for you.
Do you accept insurance?
The office accepts all insurance plans, and staff will verify and explain your benefits before treatment at no charge. A patient with insurance may expect to pay on average between $0 and $40 per visit, whether or not the office is in network, once the deductible has been satisfied. The office fills out claim forms and submits them to your provider at no charge. Medicare and auto accident lien and workers' compensation cases are also handled.
Is massage covered by my insurance?
The office states that massage and manual therapy are covered by nearly all PPO health insurance plans provided the treatment is prescribed by your chiropractor. Call the office to find out if you are eligible under your current health plan.
What if I do not have insurance?
The office offers affordable prepayment packages, which are reviewed with you before treatment begins. For patients who have little or no chiropractic insurance coverage, flexible payment programs can be arranged.
What happens on my first visit?
You will fill out a New Patient Entry Form and a Pain Diagram, then the doctor will ask directed questions and perform a thorough physical exam including standard orthopedic, neurological, and postural testing. Additional testing such as X-ray, CT, MRI, ECG, or laboratory work may be ordered. You then receive a report of findings and treatment recommendations, which may include chiropractic, massage, physical therapy, rehabilitative exercises, nutritional advice, or a combination.
Do you offer adjustments without forceful cracking?
Yes. The Activator Method uses a hand-held instrument to deliver a specific, gentle, low-force adjustment that is quick and measured. The Cox Flexion Distraction Technique applies only slight pressure throughout the process and is described as a safe, nearly painless alternative to back surgery.
Can children and pregnant patients be treated here?
Chiropractic adjustment techniques are specifically modified to accommodate the developing spine of a child, and one of the massage therapists holds a certification in Pediatric Massage. Adjustment techniques are also tailored to a patient's size, weight, age, and overall health, and Dr. Halliday has many years of experience treating expecting mothers.
What is your cancellation policy?
The office has a 24-hour cancellation policy. A $60 fee is incurred if the office does not receive advance notification of at least 24 hours. Insurance does not cover this fee, so it is the patient's responsibility. You will also receive a reminder call the day before your scheduled appointment unless you ask the receptionist not to.
