Exterior work follows a full preparation sequence rather than paint alone: high-pressure power washing to strip dirt, mildew, and peeling paint, hand scraping and feather sanding of loose material, priming of bare surfaces, caulking of cracks, gaps, and seams in siding, trim, and joints, refastening of loose boards and raised nails, and minor carpentry repair such as replacing rotted wood or fixing trim. Two coats of premium, weather-resistant paint are then applied by brush, roller, or spray, with spray and backrolling used on textured siding for even coverage. Interior projects include patching nail holes, dents, and scratches, spot texturing to blend repaired areas into the existing pattern, caulking around trim, doors, and baseboards, and a customized color selection worked out with the client. Gardner Painting uses premium Sherwin-Williams paint chosen for its durability in Colorado's high altitude and strong UV exposure, and will accommodate a preferred brand or product line on request. How do you prepare an exterior before painting?
We start with high-pressure power washing to remove dirt, mildew, peeling paint, and debris. We then hand scrape loose paint, feather sand any peeling or chipping areas, and prime bare surfaces. Cracks, gaps, and seams in siding, trim, and joints are sealed with high-quality caulk, loose boards are refastened, and raised nails are reset. After that we apply two coats of premium, weather-resistant paint.
