Pines Family Chiropractic
Pines Family Chiropractic is a chiropractic center on Pines Blvd in Pembroke Pines led by Dr. Rick Behar, D.C. The practice takes the time to educate patients about how the body works and its ability to heal, working to find the source of the trouble and alleviate the pain, then correcting spinal alignment and function so the body can heal itself. Dr. Behar graduated from Life Chiropractic University in Marietta, Georgia with his Doctorate in December 1995, has been a licensed chiropractor for over 20 years, and has practiced in Pembroke Pines and Weston. He has worked with infants, young children, teens, adults and professional athletes, is certified in Manipulation Under Anesthesia, and is a member of the Florida Chiropractic Association. Treatment here is non-invasive rather than built around drugs, medications or surgery. Care combines chiropractic adjustments with kinesiology muscle testing, massage therapy in Swedish, deep tissue and pregnancy forms, physiotherapy including electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, traction and hydrotherapy, shockwave therapy for chronic soft tissue and joint pain, spider kinesio taping, therapeutic exercise programs, and deep tissue laser therapy with the LightForce Pro. X-rays are used only when a condition calls for it, on equipment that is inspected regularly and meets the standards of the National Radiation Protection Board. Conditions treated include back and neck pain, headaches and migraines, sciatica, shoulder pain, arthritis, carpal tunnel, sports injuries, and car accident or work injuries. Licensed massage therapist Bianca Sotomayer, L.M.T. has worked with Dr. Behar for over 10 years and specializes in spot therapy and reflexology.

FAQs
What conditions do you treat?
Chiropractic adjustments here are used for arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel, headaches and migraines, neck pain, sciatic pain, shoulder pain, sports injuries, numbness in the arms and hands, muscle tension, stress, and car accident or work injuries, among other health issues.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment, also called spinal manipulation, involves manipulation of the head, neck, shoulders, back and hips. It can range from slow and easing massage to rapid and gentle pressure across the affected area. The popping sound many people expect is the quick release of air or gas bubbles, not the cracking of bones, discs or cartilage. The purpose is to correct spinal subluxation, where a vertebra is out of position or not moving the way it should.
Who is the chiropractor?
Dr. Rick Behar, D.C. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1991, then attended Life Chiropractic University in Marietta, Georgia and graduated with his Doctorate in December 1995. He has been a licensed chiropractor for over 20 years, has practiced in Pembroke Pines and Weston, and has worked with infants, young children, teens, adults and professional athletes. He is certified in Manipulation Under Anesthesia and is a member of the Florida Chiropractic Association.
Do you X-ray every patient?
No. X-rays are a diagnostic tool rather than a chiropractic treatment, and the office uses them only when it sees the need, not as a routine practice. As a general guideline they are used after an auto accident where a fracture or dislocation is suspected, for long-standing pain that has not resolved with previous chiropractic care, for most patients over 70 years of age, for trauma over the age of 50, and after any significant traumatic injury. If you have had recent X-rays, bring them with you.
What is laser therapy and how many sessions does it take?
The office uses the LightForce Pro Deep Tissue Therapy Laser, a surgery-free, non-invasive and drug-free option for people suffering from pain. The treatment is fast, safe and painless. Most patients see a result in three to five treatment sessions and the therapeutic effect can continue for up to 18 hours after the session. It has been used for neck and lower back pain, sports injuries, bursitis, arthritis, tendonitis, carpal tunnel, fibromyalgia, shingles and plantar fasciitis.
What kinds of massage do you offer?
Three types: Swedish massage, deep tissue massage and pregnancy massage. The practice pairs massage with chiropractic adjustments, because an adjustment extends the benefits and relief of a massage. Massage is provided by Bianca Sotomayer, L.M.T., who has worked with Dr. Behar for over 10 years and specializes in spot therapy and reflexology.
When is shockwave therapy used?
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment often used when other chiropractic care methods have been ineffective in relieving pain, and before resorting to surgical or more invasive alternatives. It begins with a full-body assessment to identify problem areas, then a gel is applied and transmitters deliver acoustic sound waves deep into the tissue. It is used for back, hip and knee pain, arthritis and joint pain, shin splints, tennis elbow, Achilles tendinitis, frozen shoulder, plantar fasciitis and scar tissue.
