North Metro Lawn Care, LLC is a lawn care and sprinkler company based at 12019 Grape Way in Thornton, Colorado. The company changed its name from Al B's Lawn Care and is also known as Al B's Lawn & Tree Care, with the same owners and the same services under the new name. It describes itself as a family owned business, licensed and insured, and says it is committed to dependable, quality service for a reasonable price. Al, the owner, has been in this line of work since 1999. His wife Lisa has handled the phones from the beginning and looks after scheduling, appointments, call aheads and monthly billing, drawing on a background in customer service and marketing. The business started primarily by word of mouth and the site says that several years later it is well known and respected throughout the north metro area because of the quality of its work. The service year runs on a season schedule. Spring begins the middle of March with spring clean-ups and small tree and shrub trimming, aeration and fertilization start April 1st, and weekly lawn care, sprinkler turn-ons and sprinkler repair begin the 3rd week in April depending on the weather. Fall begins around the 16th of September with aeration and fertilization to prepare the yard for winter, and sprinkler turn off starts the beginning of October, when a large compressor is used to blow out each zone. Weekly lawn care covers mowing with commercial grade 4-cycle Toro mulching mowers, edging with an 8 inch steel blade as needed, string trimming, blowing hardscapes clear, and removing all grass clippings from the property. Sprinkler work covers pressure vacuum breakers, sprinkler heads, drip systems, leaks, timers and valves, using commercial-grade parts with a 1-year guarantee on parts and labor. Estimates for all of the company's services are free, and every service is guaranteed.

Services

Weekly lawn care

Weekly lawn care

Weekly mowing with commercial grade 4-cycle Toro mulching lawn mowers, string trimming around borders, fences, trees and obstacles, and blowing of sidewalks and other concrete areas on completion. Grass clippings are caught and removed from the property, and the yard can be mulched instead with 48 hours notice. Weekly lawn care begins the 3rd week in April based on the weather.

Lawn aeration

Lawn aeration

A machine pulls plugs out of the yard to increase circulation to the roots of the grass. Plug depth depends on the moisture in the yard, so a moist lawn lets the tines sink deeper. Spring aeration starts April 1st and fall aeration begins around the 16th of September.

Lawn fertilization

Lawn fertilization

The company uses more of a natural product for fertilization. Spring is a springtime stimulant that gives the grass the nutrients it needs to start growing again, mid-summer is a reapplication to help with the heat, and from mid-September a winter fertilizer with time released agents feeds the yard going into the cold.

Sprinkler repair

Sprinkler repair

Repair and replacement of pressure vacuum breakers, adjustment, repair and replacement of sprinkler heads, drip system fixes and additions, leak repairs, sprinkler timer repairs, and valve repair and replacement. North Metro Lawn Care comes out to assess the problem, gives an estimate, then schedules a date for the repair.

Sprinkler turn on

Sprinkler turn on

Activating the sprinkler system and running through each zone to confirm it is working properly, adjusting all sprinkler heads so they water the yard rather than the sidewalks and fence, and setting the sprinkler clock to the watering days and length you want. Turn-ons begin the 3rd week in April based on the weather.

FAQs

What is included in weekly lawn care?
Mowing with commercial grade 4-cycle Toro mulching lawn mowers, edging on the first cut in the spring and then with an 8 inch steel blade as needed, string trimming around borders, fences, trees and obstacles, and blowing sidewalks and other concrete areas clear of clippings on completion. All grass clippings are caught and removed from your property. If you would rather have the yard mulched, give the company 48 hours notice.
Do you charge for estimates?
No. The site states that estimates for all of the company's services are free. Estimates for weekly lawn care can be submitted by email to northmetrolawncare@gmail.com with your name, phone number, email address, street address and the nature of your request.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes. North Metro Lawn Care guarantees all of its services. If for any reason you are unhappy or something was missed, call so the company can make it right. Sprinkler repair work carries a 1-year guarantee on parts and labor, and only commercial-grade parts are used.
When does each service start in the year?
Spring begins the middle of March with spring clean-ups and small tree and shrub trimming. Aeration and fertilization start April 1st. Weekly lawn care, sprinkler turn-on and sprinkler repair begin the 3rd week in April based on the weather. Fall begins around the 16th of September with aeration and fertilization, and sprinkler turn off begins the beginning of October.
Why does my sprinkler system need to be winterized?
The company brings a large compressor and blows out each zone to prevent freeze damage. If the system is not winterized correctly the pressure vacuum breaker could rupture over the winter. Repairs for the breaker can be anywhere from $55 and up depending on the damage, and a broken breaker can send water into the air and against the house, which has been known to flood basements and wash away landscaping.
How do you handle billing?
Weekly lawn care customers are invoiced monthly, covering through the end of the month. Payments must be received by the 10th of the month to avoid late fees, and payments not received by the 15th temporarily interrupt service until the account is paid in full. For spring and fall services, sprinkler repairs, turn-ons and turn-offs, payment is due at the time of service. The company accepts checks, or you may enter a credit card to be saved on file.
What do I need to do before aeration or mowing?
For aeration, mark your center sprinkler heads so the aerator does not hit them, since perimeter heads are visible but buried center heads are not. Senior citizens or anyone who needs assistance marking heads can ask for help. For mowing, clear the areas to be serviced of trash, paper, toys, garden hoses, tools, pet droppings and large rocks, and leave the gate unlocked or provide the combination. A trampoline, playhouse, hammock, lawn furniture and similar items may stay and the crew will trim around them as best they can.
What are your hours?
The business is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and is closed Saturday and Sunday.
