Specialized Finishes
Specialized Finishes is a painting, wood finishing and restoration shop based at 584 1/2 Clifton Way in Grand Junction, CO. The business has provided residential painting services to the Western Slope of Colorado since 1997, and owner Shawn Turner brings over 35 years of hands on experience to the work. Services cover interior and exterior residential painting, commercial painting, wood finishing, wood staining and refinishing, furniture refinishing, furniture repair, and antique restoration. Shawn refinishes and restores all kinds of wood surfaces, from dining tables and cabinets to interior and exterior doors, and he assesses the wood and the existing finish before recommending a light refresh or a full strip and restain. Veneer takes special care, and the shop has extensive experience with vintage veneer pieces including dining tables, dressers and antique furniture. Water rings, scratches, sun fading and worn finishes are the most common problems that come through the door, and in most cases refinishing restores the piece to better than original condition. Grand Junction's high desert climate brings intense sun and low humidity that are hard on wood finishes, so Shawn chooses and applies coatings that hold up in this environment. Every project is handled personally by Shawn, with no subcontractors and no handoffs, and estimates are free. Furniture pickup and delivery is available in his Sprinter van for a fee each way.

FAQs
How do I get a quote for furniture refinishing or painting?
Give us a call at (970) 948-2755 or send an email with a description of your project and a few photos. We will get back to you quickly with an estimate. For some projects we are happy to come take a look in person.
How much does dining table refinishing cost?
Roughly $400 to $1500. Most dining table refinishing projects range depending on size, condition, and the finish requested. Contact us for a free estimate. One note: trying to go lighter than a stained color is very difficult if not near impossible, especially if the piece is dark, because the result is subject to the original color.
How much does interior painting cost?
The average for a regular single family home is $3.50 to $5.00 per square foot of floor space. For instance a 1500 square foot home could be $4500 or more depending on room size, ceiling height, and the prep work required, including stained trim or excessive preparation. Contact us for a free estimate.
How long does furniture refinishing take?
Due to the creative process please allow for about two weeks. Often times the piece can be finished sooner.
Can you refinish veneer surfaces, and can a table with water rings and scratches be saved?
Yes on both counts. Veneer requires special care and we have extensive experience with vintage veneer pieces including dining tables, dressers, and antique furniture. Water rings, scratches, sun fading and worn finishes are the most common issues we see and they are very treatable. In most cases refinishing restores the piece to better than original condition.
Do you pick up and deliver furniture?
Yes. If Shawn can do it himself the fee is $50 each way. If he needs to supply assistance it is $100 each way. He has a Sprinter van that is large inside.
Is Shawn Turner the only person who works on my project?
Yes. Every project is handled personally by Shawn. No subcontractors, no handoffs. You work directly with the craftsman from start to finish.
What kinds of work do you take on?
Specialized Finishes handles residential and commercial painting, interior and exterior work, wood finishing, wood staining and refinishing, furniture refinishing and repair, and antique restoration. We refinish and restore all kinds of wood surfaces, from dining tables and cabinets to interior and exterior doors.
