Bay Maples, also known as Bay Maples Wild California Gardens, is a San Jose landscaping company that creates uniquely beautiful, low-impact gardens that conserve water by incorporating native plants, recycled materials, and innovative irrigation methods like greywater and rainwater catchment. Alan Hackler created the company to address the divide between California's ongoing water needs and the human desire to live in harmony with a well-maintained and beautiful landscape. The team handles landscape design, native plant landscaping, ongoing garden management, greywater systems, rainwater collection, water features, garden structures such as arbors, fences, decks and greenhouses, and custom woodworking and metal fabrication from reclaimed lumber and salvaged logs. Bay Maples works under License #977639, starts every project with a free site visit, and is an authorized installer of Grey-Flow greywater products. The company does not use gas-powered lawn mowers or blowers and avoids toxic chemicals, and it was awarded 2023 Water Conservation Champion.

FAQs

Do you charge for the first visit?
No. Bay Maples starts with a free site visit to see the property, get an understanding of your vision, see the challenges, and consult on best practices. A separate contract covers the design phase, which is followed by a bid laying out scope, materials, and labor costs.
How much do you charge for garden maintenance?
The hourly rate is $85 per hour for one crew member and $170 per hour for two crew members. Visits typically last 1 to 4 hours, and first visits usually run a little longer depending on the state of the garden.
How often should my garden be serviced?
Monthly visits are recommended to keep a low-maintenance yard in shape. Higher-maintenance landscapes can be serviced every two weeks, and established landscapes more than two years old can look good with seasonal maintenance every 3 to 4 months.
What areas do you serve?
Bay Maples is based at 1231 N First St in San Jose and provides services throughout Santa Clara County and the Peninsula, though additional costs may be added for transportation.
Do you offer traditional mow and blow lawn care?
No. Bay Maples is not a mow, blow and go service and does not own traditional lawn care equipment. The team does not use gas-powered lawn mowers or blowers and avoids toxic chemicals, focusing instead on pruning, plant up-keep, non-toxic pest and disease control, weeding, and irrigation.
What does a greywater system cost?
Laundry to Landscape greywater systems typically cost $1,200 to $2,500. Bay Maples can install an L2L system, including the irrigation to existing plants and trees, in one day, and is an authorized installer of Grey-Flow products for pump and filter kits.
Are you licensed?
Yes. Bay Maples works under License #977639.
Will you maintain a garden that Bay Maples did not install?
Yes. Bay Maples takes on gardens it did not install, including landscapes without natives, with the same conditions: no gas-powered lawn mowers or blowers and no toxic chemicals.
